‘…most of all enacting a fearful hope for human life in society’  ~William Stringfellow

How can we confront real suffering but keep alive seeds of hope, inner freedom and joy in our personal and professional practices?

This retreat is for those seeking to create social change in the midst of a growing divide between rich and poor, challenging UK welfare funding cuts and rampant consumption of human life and environment.  Learning from the past, we will draw on the example and wisdom of Northumbrian saints, medieval carnival and comedic critics and Simone Weil.  We will also explore monastic traditions which use contemplative meditation to build authentic personal lives and create possibilities for Jesus-inspired hope in our world.
