Inner and Outer Pilgrimage (plus concert with Gareth Davies-Jones)* (Nether Springs)
09 – 12 August (Monday to Thursday)
This retreat involves both inner pilgrimage – a journey of inner work, silence, study, peace and rest and an opportunity for the ‘Heart alone with God’ and outer pilgrimage. We have a set of resources to help equip those on retreat with their own transportation, to have self-led explorations of the rich Christian heritage of Northumbria through outer, physical pilgrimage to nearby Celtic Sites. The Nether Springs Chapel, Poustinia, Labyrinth, gardens and woods and local country and coastal walks are available to all guests and provide time with God in Creation and space for the inner-outer pilgrimage as well.
*As a special treat, we will hear a house concert from local treasure musician Gareth Davies-Jones. He will share from his new album which is based on pilgrimage in Northumberland.

Integrating the Rule of Life with Internal Family Systems (IFS):Deepening and Extending the Inner and Outer Journey (Nether Springs)
13 – 15 August (Friday to Sunday)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an empowering form of psychotherapy that makes room for spirituality. IFS tells us that we all have an internal family of people inside us, called ‘parts’, and that we can build a relationship with each of our parts from our innermost self, the seat of our consciousness (IFS calls this ‘Self’ – we might identify it with what St Paul called the ‘innermost self’ or ‘innerman’). IFS has the potential to help us identify the parts of us that help or hinder us from living the NC rule of life. Then as we compassionately connect with them, we allow God’s love and compassion to free those parts so they have less power and influence over us, allowing grace to flow through us to live more authentically, experience greater wholeness and integration.
The way to learn about IFS is by experiencing it for yourself, so the weekend will consist of explanation, meditations and creative exercises to provide a safe framework for discovery and building relationship with our own internal family. It can address fundamental questions such as: ‘Am I loved?’ and ‘Am I enough?’ All that is required to begin is for us to direct our attention inside in stillness and with patient nonjudgemental curiosity.
Led by: Companion Ali Betteridge, a psychotherapist trained in IFS.
