Gall was a faithful friend and disciple of Columbanus (see November 23rd), but he unwittingly offended him. Nevertheless he carefully obeyed Columbanus’ injunction no longer to celebrate Communion while Columbanus lived. Both continued to work tirelessly for the gospel, and as Columbanus died, he sent Gall his pastoral staff as a sign of final reconciliation.
Help me, loving Lord, whatever slights and injustices I may have to bear, to continue faithfully in Your service. Bring the day near when all who are at odds with me in any way may be reconciled to me. Give me wisdom and grace to do my best to offend no-one and to live at peace with all. Amen.
