Being on the road again seemed an appropriate time to resume my blogging.
A 2000 mile round trip awaits us in what I’ve described elsewhere as a mini “European tour”! No t-shirts, souvenirs although there is a concert, I am journeying to the IBTS (International Baptist Theological Seminary) in Prague via Belgium and Germany. The delightful partnership we share with the seminary is now into its 5th year and part of our commitment to the “community” there is to lead a Northumbrian week of lectures, seminars, and workshops. It’s a great opportunity to deepen friendships with existing staff and students and make or renew friendships with young, Eastern European students, many of whom have gone onto make strong connections with the Community which has continued after they have returned to their home countries. The week is built around our Community offices and its very moving to be there on a Wednesday for the morning communion where we are prayed for each week. Journeying with me are Ken from Northern Ireland, who has been part of the team going to Prague since the partnership began and good ‘old’ Jean, who has filled the need to have a woman on the team following the withdrawal of a couple who were hoping to have been with us for the week.
I have a real heart for our Community and its slow but nevertheless emerging connections across Europe and feel very much that we are journeying on the “ancient paths” and each trip is seeing some significant connections with people and places and our hope and prayer is that this one proves equally so.
Watch this space!
