Safe Home through the Snow
Well winter has arrived in abundance. I left with a couple of inches of snow on the ground and returned to Glendale under 2 feet of snow. This is very early and does not bode well for a mild winter. Last year snow accumulated to such levels that over the course of two months and mostly after Christmas for such amounts of snow in November is almost unheard of. When I set off from Surrey I didn’t anticipate being able to get all the way home and driving conditions in North Yorkshire and part of County Durham were very taxing. A little break in the weather front, there was no blizzard conditions meant that I was able to travel albeit very slowly, circa 20 miles an hour, over the moors and home for that night. It was great to be home and I am very thankful, never taking for granted God’s protection, winter tyres and the Herculean efforts of the Highways Department snow ploughers and gritters.
I only saw 4 vehicles for the last 30 miles, two of which were electricity board Land Rovers. I am also thankful for the praying community that I left behind in Surrey who I know were much in prayer for my safe return home.
I thank God for people who pray for me and am mindful that so much of what I am able to do can be attributed to the prayerful support of both those within our Community and beyond. The words of Morning Office the following day which I’d hoped to say at Hetton for the very last time but because of the snow prevented me from doing so were very apt. He had brought me home rejoicing.
