Aspirationally Brilliant, Plodding Hopefully

I was speaking at the Church Army Annual AGM and Reflective Day in London recently. I remember attending a Church Army Training weekend back in 1975 during which I enjoyed my first experience of preaching and debating in the open air at Speakers Corner. It was great to link up with George Lings, fellow Companion of the Community and a Church Army staff member whose research and accompanying our Community has been so richly significant. The Army has spent two years considering the prospects of becoming an Order and I was invited to lead Officers, Staff members and their Board in a period of reflection and also share insights from our own Community’s story. They like us are seeking to build the new on foundations of old. It was a good gathering.

Before lunch we held a Q&A session during which I was asked how I viewed my own commitment to the Rule of Availability and Vulnerability. I replied,  Aspirationally brilliant, plodding hopefully in the right direction!

Hope you are aspiring and moving in the same direction as we seek to live out our calling as disciples of Christ.
