The nun, the bishop monk and the minister

E-mail Print PDF

It sounds like the beginning of a joke.  Far from it, it was a delight to welcome to Nether Springs in our last week of receiving guests at Hetton Hall, three of our four Community Visitors; Bishop Ambrose (Benedictine Monk and former Catholic Bishop of Newcastle and Hexham), Sister Janet Elizabeth of the Order of the Holy Paraclete and Ernie Whalley, Regional Minister from Yorkshire.  John Pritchard, Bishop of Oxford, our Anglican Visitor, was unable to be with us on this occasion.  Between them there is a wealth of wisdom and experience and their insights, observations and ensuing report will be greatly valued.  As well as our growing links with new monastic communities, emerging partnerships and fresh expressions of church, it is a good discipline to be relating to those of the established church and religious communities.  Isolationism should be guarded against in any expression of church or community and we intentionally invite our Community Visitors to participate, share, observe and “feel the pulse” of our life.  Their findings and prayerful considerations and comments will be as ever helpful.

Newsflash

Our good friends and Community Companions Martin and Bekah Neil have been intimately involved in a project to record the Wagogo people in Africa, in order to provide wells in their villages. Trust me, you need to buy this CD and DVD set. It may well change your life, and it will certainly change theirs... You can order it from our Resources area.
