The Blessing of Children and Grandchildren

E-mail Print PDF

20th September

It was one of those beautiful days in life’s calendar.  The Psalmist says that children are a gift from the Lord ~ well Grandchildren are equally great blessings.  The reward for having brought up your own children!  We are privileged, Shirley and I, to be grandparents of four, this summer saw the arrival of our first granddaughter bringing great pleasure.  Sunday, however, saw us not in Ireland but in Oxford where we were attending young Gabriel’s dedication, the first born of Jessica and Nick.  I had the double honour of preaching at his service and co-presiding at the Eucharist with the Vicar.  Gabriel lived up to his reputation as a very pleasant, lively but amiable 1 year old who won the hearts of everyone.  I concluded my address with a prayer and hope that he would live up to his name, Gabriel, a strong man of God whose life would bring gladness to all who knew him and that he would also be like his middle name, Timothy, Timotheos ~ a life honouring to God.

Newsflash

Our good friends and Community Companions Martin and Bekah Neil have been intimately involved in a project to record the Wagogo people in Africa, in order to provide wells in their villages. Trust me, you need to buy this CD and DVD set. It may well change your life, and it will certainly change theirs... You can order it from our Resources area.
