The Almost Unforgiveable Sin

E-mail Print PDF

May 26th

I’ve committed what is almost the unforgiveable sin in that I have had to take a day out of our holiday to speak at a conference for leaders in South Yorkshire.  We tried to rearrange the date when booking our holiday break but for lots of reasons it just wasn’t possible.  I think it is the first time I have ever done it and won’t be ever intentionally doing it again but it was all right, and we’ve been able to extend our holiday by a day to compensate.  I met a really good bunch of people and enjoyed the input from a guy from the Eden Project who reminded us that Jesus came from Nazareth and challenged us to think about being in the Nazareth’s of today.  The reading this morning that I had shared was a reminder that Jesus’ first sermon when he announced the Kingdom of God was good news for the poor.  The challenge to be good news for the poor and to dwell in the Nazareth’s of this world have yet to be seriously taken up by the church and our own community.

I know that with the relocation of our Mother House, the emergence of new Community Houses and some fresh creative initiatives has a missional edge to them.  These are exciting, opportune and challenging days but such is our contemporary monastic and missional calling.

But for now the wine bottle has been uncorked and a glass of Chardonnay beckons.

Newsflash

Our good friends and Community Companions Martin and Bekah Neil have been intimately involved in a project to record the Wagogo people in Africa, in order to provide wells in their villages. Trust me, you need to buy this CD and DVD set. It may well change your life, and it will certainly change theirs... You can order it from our Resources area.
