There are certain times and experiences in life that seem significant and I’ve just returned from two weeks away from home during which I’ve been privileged to be part of some very exciting happenings. Our time at IBTS in Prague was both enjoyable, stimulating and the partnership with the Seminary community was deepened by our time together. It is a remarkable privilege to share with the lives of students, the majority of whom are from Eastern European countries. I was joined by Companions Ken Humphrey from Ireland, Floor Vogelaar from Holland, Jean Watson, my PA, from round the corner and my younger son, Joshua, who joined the team, led the worship and gave a lecture during a series of lectures and seminars on the Celtic Saints, New Monasticism and our own Community.
I hadn’t fully appreciated before how much the partnership is valued by the folks at IBTS and there are several things that will come out of this recent visit that will help to strengthen links between us. Prague is always a beautiful place to visit, its architecture is stunning and the fact that we experienced the transition from winter to summer in the space of two days, afforded us the opportunity to bask in the courtyard and grounds of the Seminary as temperatures reached 21°! It was quite a shock to return to the chill temperatures and grey skies of Britain.
From Prague we moved quickly, courtesy of German autobahns, where with no offence to John Wesley’s definition of sin, we knowingly transgressed the law. Our destination ~ Amsterdam where we held the first Community Weekend in the country. Twelve of us gathered to creatively explore the Rule at the home of Shawna and Naos in Old Amsterdam. Their house will become a Community House later this year. These are exciting days and the number of people connecting and journeying with the Community from across Europe and beyond is a privilege to observe and serve.
