Just to let you know that I have just released my first solo album 'Veil of Gossamer', on our own Open Sky Records label. Much of the inspiration is from Northumbria - from words by David Adam, a story in the life of St Cuthbert, a piece called (and written in!) Seahouses. Also words from the Carmina Gadelica (sung in their original Gaelic translation, and the title inspired by George McLeod's beautiful prayer 'Veil as thin as Gossamer'. IONA / OPEN SKY RECORDS VEIL OF GOSSAMER - DAVE BAINBRIDGE'S FIRST SOLO ALBUM ..lots of melody and tremendous musicianship,.....cinematic and textural, with vast tempo changes within the pieces and certainly across the tracks.......Musical themes are introduced in the first half of the album that recur as the material continues to develop and surround the listener. They pass between the various instruments--acoustic guitar, mandolin, piano, and so on--eventually finding their way to powerful guitar solos and keyboard washes. Vocals are expressive and sensually performed. The album is a progressive project with a classical edge--not classical in the sense of Bach and Classic FM, but classical in the sense of structure--with melody as well as artistic virtuosity. And it's struck a perfect balance between instrumental and vocal with neither dominating the sound.......This long-awaited solo project by Dave Bainbridge was certainly worth the wait....Veil Of Gossamer is a tremendous album. Airy, heavenly, emotional, rocky, spiritual; these are all words that can apply to the new solo album by Iona's Dave Bainbridge...... a work of much beauty.... and one that will make those hairs stand on the back of your neck now and then...... The ethereal meets the rocky perfectly as angel like voices and the traditional link to explosions of electric guitar and percussion. A great Celtic Rock Symphony with amazing scale.... a finely weaved sound tapestry.....sensitive but dynamic. Emotional guitar solos and powerful rhythm give highest move to listeners followed by exquisite cooldown by pastoral passages of acoustic instruments. A must for all music fans! |
