| Community Groups | ||||||||
| In various parts of the UK, groups of people meet together, usually once a month, as local expressions of the Northumbria Community. Most groups meet in someone’s house. All are ecumenical in nature and exercise some form of hospitality. Generally there is some kind of liturgy shared at some point in the time together; most frequently that is Evening Office | ||||||||
| What each group does is up to the people who make up the group! There are loose guidelines and suggestions available, but, as long as the ethos of the NC is maintained, there is freedom for both spontaneity and creativity. Often groups go through a period of just wanting to meet together in a safe space where they can be free to be themselves and ask questions. At other times, they might decide to explore the nature of the NC and the Rule: ‘A Way for Living’, or some aspect of the spirituality that has informed the development of the Community. |

Sometimes a group will be invited to contribute
in some way to an aspect of NC work in their area - for instance the Cotswold
group got involved in a big way in the NC team which went to Greenbelt Arts
Festival last summer. |

| Some groups have members with long established connections to NC or to each other. Others have formed almost spontaneously through a few people meeting initially to say Office and share something of their own stories. There is no right way to be a Community group – all it needs is enthusiasm, acceptance of each other, and a desire to seek God. | ||||||||
| Currently there are groups in the following places: Arnhem, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol & Bath, Cambridge, Chard, Cheltenham, Dordogne,Exeter, Forest of Dean, Leeds & York, Leicestershire, Lower Wharfedale, Newton Aycliffe, North Northumberland, Nottingham, Oxford, Peterborough, Portsmouth, Scarborough, Sedburgh, Sheffield, St Albans, Surrey & Hampshire, West Lothian and Wyvern. |
